Mapletree’s Mid-Autumn Festival draws more than 500 attendees in second-year success at Alexandra Precinct
05 Sep 2024

Under the event series, An Evening with Mapletree, this year’s celebration is themed Art, Culture and Community

SINGAPORE, 5 September 2024 - More than 500 Mapletree Investments’ (“Mapletree” or “the Group”) tenants, members from the Alexandra Precinct community and Mapletree employees came together to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival at Mapletree Business City (MBC) on 4 September 2024.

Organised for the second year running under the event series, An Evening with Mapletree, the festival was curated to foster stronger community ties and enhance Alexandra Precinct as a work-live-play environment. The event was opened by Mr Edmund Cheng, Chairman, Mapletree; Mr Hiew Yoon Khong, Group Chief Executive Officer, Mapletree; Mr Wan Kwong Weng, Group Chief Corporate Officer, Mapletree; Mr Wu Wen-Ling, Deputy Representative, Taipei Representative Office in the Republic of Singapore and Mr Steven Chua, Enterprise Architecture Advisory, Premium Engagement, SAP Asia.

Mr Edmund Cheng, Mapletree Chairman said: “Mid-Autumn is a traditional festival that focuses on reunions with families gathering to share mooncakes, lanterns and laughter under the full moon. In the same spirit of celebrating togetherness, we have organised this event to foster stronger connections with our tenants, our staff and the community groups we work closely with.”

Aligned with the theme Art, Culture and Community, attendees were delighted with an array of artistic and cultural activities throughout the evening. These included hands-on calligraphy fan-making workshop and an engaging riddle hunt in MBC with attractive prizes.

In addition, two contests were held leading up to the festival. A total of 60 Mapletree tenants and employees as well as seniors from nearby community organisations participated in a lantern painting contest while 106 children and seniors from the Alexandra Precinct took part in a colouring contest. Three grand prize winners per category each received a S$100 Mapletree voucher while another 15 participants were each awarded a consolation prize of S$50 Mapletree voucher (please refer to Annex A for list of winners). Shortlisted colouring contest entries and lantern painting submissions were transformed into a community-crafted installation, adding vibrancy to the space.

As guests enjoyed mooncakes and light refreshments, they were captivated by a Chinese cultural performance showcasing plate spinning and a vanishing rice bowl trick. The evening was further enhanced by live music from local singer and songwriter Ben Hum and the Singapore University of Technology and Design’s Chinese Orchestra, whose popular Mid-Autumn medleys such as The Moon Represents My Heart《月亮代表我的心》and Moonlight In The City《城里的月光》enthralled the audience.

There were also other exciting attractions such as a local crafters’ market for a curated shopping experience, a calligraphy fan workshop, a themed photo booth to capture precious memories, motorised animal rides for the children and a grand lucky draw to cap off the evening.
